The minute I discovered that making money online was a really viable option for income was the minute a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. I remember exactly where I was in my life when I made this revelation:

I had just received my first payment for a writing job I had done for somebody on the other side of the world. In more ways than one, that first payment was symbolic – I had gotten it for writing, something that I had been told countless times that I wasn’t good at and that I couldn’t make a career out of. Yet, here I was making money off my passion, and the person I was writing for thought I was pretty darn fantastic.

A light bulb lit up over my head.

From that point forward, I flung myself into exploring ways to build a business online. I went to classes and trainings, spent countless hours researching a bunch of different topics and signed up for more mailing lists from experts than I could count. I attended webinars, read book after book and did a lot of goal-setting and planning. Little by little, I gained clarity on owning and operating online business ventures, and the money started rolling in.

During this time, I was in college and I hated it. I felt like I was wasting time going to school. I just couldn’t wrap my head around spending so much money (by then I was paying for it with the money I made online) to have professors drone on and on at me, and be surrounded by young people who were just so confused about what they wanted their lives to be. It didn’t feel right. Life was going on outside these walls, and here I was stuck at a desk!

A man isn’t the answer…but neither is feminism

The metaphorical straw that broke the camel’s back was when this girl I knew told me that her biggest aspiration was to be the mistress of a rich man so she could spend all this money and take vacations with him, and be the “sexy secretary in his office.” I was floored – was she for real? After that incident, I started seeing more and more where a lot of people – especially young women just like me – had no real idea of how to get to the satisfaction/wealth/financial security they craved.

Just the fact that this young woman thought that she could get what she wanted out of life by leeching off a man who busted his ass to accumulate wealth scared me and made me angry at the same time. For a while, I sought to explore the whole concept through feminism, but I realized that it wasn’t my cup of tea. I wasn’t content with having Twitter spats over inconsequential things, and frankly the issue I wanted to solve really had nothing to do with men. It had everything do with women.

I wanted to equip young women with the tools, skills and support they needed to achieve financial security for themselves, just like what I was doing through my online businesses. Still, I had no idea how I was going to solve it. I was missing a piece of the puzzle.

Found the missing puzzle piece at last!

I found that puzzle piece when I got two consecutive internships as a blogger. One for a conglomerate in my country, and the other for UNICEF’s Voices of Youth. Those two internships made realize just what I needed to do – start a blog!

That’s how The Femme Agenda came into existence. I created this blog to serve a few main purposes:

  1. As an online business resource for anyone (*cough* women) who wants to know the fundamentals of starting a business online, and open up the world of online business opportunities. Yeah, even YOU can make money online.
  2. To help existing digital entrepreneurs run better online businesses, with tips, tricks and advice on just about everything – from social media marketing to outsourcing and everything in-between.
  3. As a place for aspiring entrepreneurs to gain trusted advice on how to take the first steps into entrepreneurship, come up with ideas and execute them well.
  4. To help women be their own badasses!

What I’m really here for:
